S/4HANA deployment options

S/4HANA deployment options

S/4HANA deployment options describe the different ways an organization can run SAP S/4HANA depending on its IT strategy, flexibility needs, regulatory requirements, and budget. SAP offers four main deployment models, each with its own strengths.

The Four S/4HANA Deployment Options

1. S/4HANA Public Cloud

A fully managed SaaS version of S/4HANA hosted by SAP.

  • Fastest implementation
  • Quarterly automatic updates
  • Standardized processes with minimal customization
  • Lower total cost of ownership
  • Ideal for companies wanting a clean core, cloud first approach

2. S/4HANA Private Cloud

Part of RISE with SAP, offering more flexibility while still being cloud hosted.

  • Greater customization than public cloud
  • Annual upgrades
  • SAP manages infrastructure, backups, and operations
  • Suitable for companies migrating from ECC with existing custom processes

3. S/4HANA On Premise

Installed and managed in the customer’s own data Center.

  • Maximum control over system, data, and security
  • Highest level of customization
  • Customer manages upgrades, patches, and infrastructure
  • Preferred by industries with strict regulatory or data sovereignty requirements

4. Hybrid Deployment

A combination of cloud and on premise components.

  • Flexibility to keep sensitive workloads on premise
  • Ability to adopt cloud innovations gradually
  • Useful for phased migrations or multi country rollouts

How to Choose the Right Deployment Model

Your choice depends on:

  • Need for customization
  • Regulatory and data sovereignty requirements
  • Budget and IT resource availability
  • Speed of implementation
  • Desire for SAP managed vs. self managed infrastructure

Public Cloud is fastest and most standardized.

Private Cloud balances flexibility and cloud benefits.

On Premise offers full control.

Hybrid supports gradual transformation.
